Terrasza Milano 2024 A garden for outdoor design

TERRASZA, a platform devoted exclusively to exterior design, is excited to announce the inaugural edition of TERRASZA MILANO from 15 to 21 April 2024, coinciding with Milan Design Week. This presents a prime opportunity for both professionals and design aficionados to delve into the realm of exterior design and outdoor living.

After its debut last October in Barcelona, where with TERRASZA BCN 2023 it had created a circuit of showrooms and events with the collaboration of brands such as Artemide, Gandía Blasco, Nanimarquina, iSiMAR, Point, Agora, HOUE, Potocco, Cubiñá, and KSAR Living, in Milan TERRASZA announces its collaboration with other Italian and European brands.

Located in the Giardino di Alik, the residence of the Centro Artistico Alik Cavaliere at via Edmondo de Amicis 17, TERRASZA MILAN 2024 finds its home in the vibrant heart of the city’s 5VIE district. This area, where design and art have historically intertwined, provides the perfect backdrop for the event. Alongside the sculptures of one of the great contemporary art masters of the latter half of the 20th century, the latest outdoor furniture and accessories from various companies will be showcased. This unique setting offers a glimpse into the moonlit elegance of outdoor spaces.

The exhibition’s layout is expertly overseen by architect Giovanni Rivolta from the A4A Rivolta Savioni Architetti studio, ensuring a seamless integration of the companies’ offerings into the artistic surroundings. Among the participants confirmed to date are:

Benkert Bänke

• Benkert Bänke, a distinguished German brand renowned for its commitment to high-quality, sustainable, and aesthetically pleasing urban furniture for over three decades, will showcase its award-winning creations. Among these is the Chalidor 800, a masterpiece designed by Antonio Mastrorilli, the founder of Gibillero Design. This piece, in particular, has garnered multiple accolades, reflecting the brand’s dedication to innovation and design excellence in the realm of urban furnishings.

Ca\Stil

• Ca\Stil, an esteemed Italian brand known for its minimalist and contemporary design ethos, focuses on crafting metal furniture suited for both contract and residential settings. Marking its debut at Fuorisalone, Ca\Stil will present six of its flagship collections, embodying the company’s rich history and commitment to excellence. These collections, developed in collaboration with international designers, stand as a testament to Ca\Stil’s dedication to innovative design and quality craftsmanship, reflecting the brand’s position at the forefront of the furniture industry.

Gandía Blasco

• Gandía Blasco Group, a Mediterranean entity boasting an 82-year heritage, originally commenced as a manufacturer of yarns and blankets. Its journey has been characterised by ceaseless reinvention and a commitment to fostering a culture of design. Now under the stewardship of the third generation, it stands as a paragon in the design and creation of furniture and outdoor environments, as well as contemporary handcrafted rugs. This achievement is underpinned by its three brands: GANDIABLASCO, GAN, and DIABLA, all of which collaborate with renowned international architects and designers.

Lorelux

• Lorelux, an Apulian brand distinguished for pioneering the first urban street lamps made from recycled and infinitely recyclable plastic, resistant to shocks and adverse weather conditions, and a nominee for the Compasso d’Oro 2024, introduces Cloche. This inaugural street lamp from the Contemporary Collection is brought to life under the art direction of the acclaimed architect Raffaella Mangiarotti and designed by Milanese industrial designer Alessandro Stabile.

Magis

• Magis, the «artists’ factory» and a standard-bearer for Italian design since 1976, offers timeless furniture and seating crafted from durable and recyclable materials. The brand presents the Air-Chair, originally designed by Jasper Morrison in 1999. In 2023, this iconic chair was re-launched in a new iteration, constructed entirely from 100% post-consumer plastic. This material is sourced from recycled poly-bonded and disposable food packaging, highlighting Magis’ commitment to environmental sustainability.

Novara

• Novara Outdoor Kitchens introduces to Barcelona its minimalist, customizable, practical, and durable outdoor kitchens, crafted using the exclusive Q-XTREM® technology, designed specifically for nautical environments. These kitchens are ideal for discerning customers seeking furniture capable of withstanding seafront exposure. They feature large worktops, high-quality appliances, and intelligent storage solutions, catering to the most sophisticated of outdoor culinary experiences.

Plust

• Plust, launched in 2006 as a brand of euro3plast Spa – a leading manufacturer of Made in Italy plastic vases and objects – presents its vision of outdoor design with the Boom collection designed by Marco Gregori. This collection marries the geometric perfection of the circle with exceptional seating comfort, showcasing the creative potential of plastic in outdoor furniture design.

Viscio

• Viscio Urban Design, with over three decades of leadership in the design and production of street furniture using local reconstituted stone from Apricena (FG), unveils its latest breakthrough: the RecycALL photoluminescent bollards. Conceived by Alessandro Canepa, Tiziana Di Sipio, and Sara Priore, these bollards have been honored by the ADI Design Index 2023 and are nominees for the Compasso d’Oro 2024. Doubling as seats, they enable the recycling of zero-kilometer inert materials, lower production and sales expenses, offer «zero-cost» illumination, reduce CO2 emissions, and furnish any urban space with a fully customizable product.

In the captivating environment of Giardino di Alik, an open-air cinema, complete with a variety of outdoor seating from numerous companies, will be established. Accompanying the enchanting visuals of terraces, gardens, and swimming pools, the FX film and animation school in Barcelona, known for its diverse course offerings including a master’s degree in architectural visualisation, is crafting exceptionally creative content that will remain under wraps until April.

This cinema will serve as the focal point for a week devoted to communal enjoyment and appreciation of the outdoors, creating a nexus where nature, design, and art converge. This event is set to provide a counterpoint to a network of showrooms across the city, all pinpointed on a map crafted by Ángela Léon. The illustrator has conceptualized the entirety of TERRASZA’s imagery, symbolizing not just a place for relaxation in a balcony or garden, but also a nook for work, in harmony with the natural world. It represents outdoor areas, public squares, and streets where people gather. TERRASZA aims to reflect on the society that conducts its day-to-day life in what is known as the ‘sunny interior’—a shared space, a visible sphere of energy that is ever-evolving.

To introduce the event, a press conference was held on 13 February, featuring Alessandro Rossi, Associate and Project Director of PARK ASSOCIATI, and Teo Sandigliano, Designer and Founder of WeVux and Materials Design Map. They initiated discussions on topics central to TERRASZA, such as urban regeneration and the use of innovative materials in outdoor design—themes that are echoed in its Manifesto.

De’Longhi, a partner that aligns with the ethos of sustainability, provided and will continue to offer during the design week in April, a unique coffee experience with its new Rivelia machines. These machines brew fresh coffee from freshly ground beans, allowing for easy switching between different coffee varieties and transforming the home bar experience.

De’Longhi will also offer its coffee at the TERRASZA’s event organized within the OFF circuit of the Madrid Design Festival on Saturday, 24 February, titled ‘INTERMEDIATE ECOLOGIES: Dialogues between creativity and nature,’ held in the Paisaje Doméstico space.
