Designed to integrate Lyonuc nucleation induction method to preserve product integrity and process efficiency
At Analytica US (Columbus, Ohio, 2025, 10-12 September), Telstar (Booth 961) will be introducing the last generation of twin-vessel pilot-scale freeze dryers for research, development and scale-up of recipes for pharmaceutical freeze-drying processes.
This range of cabinets, offering until 9.68 ft² (0.9 m²) of useful shelf surface area, is characterized by attributes of flexibility, high performance, and small footprint required in a laboratory unit, including advanced process control systems, management software, and interface features. A cascade refrigeration system cools the shelves and feeds a -80 °C condenser. LyoBeta range includes, optionally, an innovative vacuum nucleation induction method particularly effective when effective when testing and developing new recipes.
Vacuum nucleation induction method
Developed by Telstar, the new nucleation induction method Lyonuc facilitates scaling up and optimization from a laboratory pilot scale to industrial scale. It is a solution for effectively inducing the start of nucleation in the freeze-drying process that enables R&D centres and pharmaceutical laboratories to run freeze-drying process more efficiently, increasing the productively and improving the batch uniformly.
This nucleation induction method reduces the duration of the primary drying cycle. The vacuum-induced nucleation produces a change in the solid structure of the solution and manages to homogenize the moment when the freezing starts so that all the vials nucleate at the same time in a few seconds, instead of taking 30-45 minutes which is how long the spontaneous nucleation process typically takes. This method based on controlling the temperature and pressure and inducing the start of the freezing phase, also ensures the uniformity and homogenization of the vials in all the batches, respecting the product’s physiochemical properties.
LyoBeta Mini
During Analytica, Telstar will be also promoting the compact LyoBeta Mini (W 94 cm x H 76 cm x D 63 cm), a pilot-scale freeze dryer specifically intended for small scale formulation, research, and development work. It has been designed in twin-vessel configuration with a condenser capacity of 6 kg, which is separate from the product chamber.
Belonging to the LyoBeta range of freeze dryers, LyoBeta Mini is equipped with an automatic stoppering system that enables an automatic sequence to be programmed. This includes an electromagnetic aeration valve and piezo-pressure sensor for use in combination with the pneumatic stoppering device. This compact laboratory freeze-dryer offers 1.93 ft² (0.18 m²) of useful shelf surface area with temperature control from -55 to +70 °C.
