Roca expands the Ohtake collection with the addition of new designs by Rodrigo Ohtake
Roca has expanded its renowned Ohtake collection, originally designed by architect Ruy Ohtake with a timeless style of organic lines inspired by nature (such as waves and the shape of an egg). This expansion is achieved through the incorporation of new designs signed by his son, the architect and designer Rodrigo Ohtake.
Invited by Roca, Rodrigo Ohtake continues his father’s legacy by launching two new countertop washbasins and a bathtub. The new washbasins are inspired by the pure shape of the calla lily (Zantedeschia aethiopica), reflecting fluidity, functionality, and combining an affinity with his father’s work with originality. Rodrigo Ohtake describes his process as intuitive and manual, starting by shaping forms with clay/putty.
The new bathtub, made of Stonex®, is inspired by Japanese Onsen baths. It is characterized by a compact design with an internal seat that allows for a nestled position, inducing a sense of calm and total relaxation, allowing users to immerse themselves up to the neck.
Rodrigo Ohtake emphasizes that his work is based on reconciling functionality (that the object fulfills its purpose of collecting water) with aesthetic appeal, following his studio’s motto of making humble and meaningful projects for all audiences. The new washbasins are available in a wide color palette (white, matte white, beige, coffee, onyx, and matte black), representing a fusion of tradition and innovation.
The Ohtake collection enjoys international prestige, having been honored with awards such as the «Best of the Best» from the Red Dot Design Award, the International Design Awards (IDA), and, most recently in 2025, an iF Design Award. Rodrigo Ohtake considers his father his great master, maintaining his architectural philosophy and dedication in creating projects, where form and function have equal prominence.
