Freckles: signs of natural beauty, freshness, and uniqueness at the hotel Aubamar in Palma de Mallorca

The Felip Polar studio has selected the Pecas (Freckles) collection by Buit Valencia—designed by the Valencian duo CUAL Estudio—to define the atmosphere of their buffet restaurant: a fusion of sensory design and handcrafted materiality.

A Philosophy of Purity and Tradition
Buit Valencia, a new designer ceramic tile brand, introduces a wall covering concept heavily influenced by art. Its mission is to express purity, sensitivity, and naturalness, enhancing craftsmanship, tradition, and sustainability through an elegant and timeless formal language.

The Pecas Collection: Art Meets Surfaces
Designed by CUAL Estudio and based on their art collection of the same name, the Pecas series consists of two ceramic wall tiles that create a pattern with infinite volumetric combinations.
The collection is inspired by the small, rounded, and irregular spots that form on the skin upon contact with the sun. These organic shapes fill the work—sometimes dense, sometimes isolated—as if the sun itself were caressing the surface and painting upon it.

Materiality and Timelessness
The core idea behind Buit is to reclaim the nobility of the material. By combining art and design, the collections become pieces that transcend time. The tiles feature a raw finish to highlight the material’s purity, stripping away artificiality to let the composition, volume, and form take center stage.
Freckles are widely considered signs of natural beauty, freshness, and uniqueness. Valued as an attractive and distinctive feature, they are often seen as symbols of good luck or magic across various cultures.
