The housing sector in Germany and across Europe is undergoing a profound transformation. Urban densification, increasingly stringent energy efficiency requirements, and a growing need to renovate the existing building stock are reshaping the parameters of the construction industry. According to data from Euroconstruct and the ifo Institute, following the sharp declines of recent years, the European construction sector is expected to return to growth from 2026, with residential construction gradually recovering momentum through to 2028. In this context, the focus is shifting from new-build activity towards the sustainable regeneration of existing buildings, with particular emphasis on energy efficiency, reduced operating costs, and the adaptability of living spaces across different life stages.
ISH 2027, to be held in Frankfurt am Main from 15 to 19 March 2027, will serve as the world’s leading reference platform for HVAC, heating, and water systems, addressing these trends through five key thematic areas. The Bathroom solution area will showcase compact and accessible solutions combining design, hygiene, and long-term usability. Water-bearing Systems will highlight hygienic drinking water installations, optimised heating circuits, and rainwater harvesting systems. Heat Generation will bring together technologies such as heat pumps, hybrid systems, and the integration of renewable energies. Indoor Air will present controlled ventilation concepts focused on well-being and comfort in high-efficiency buildings. Finally, the Installation area will feature prefabricated components and optimised workflows designed to streamline construction and refurbishment processes.
The fair will be complemented by an extensive programme of conferences, specialist presentations, and expert forums addressing the decarbonisation of heating systems, the sustainable use of water, and housing models adapted to different stages of life.
